Engineer Sr. - Engineer Prin.

AEP Service Corporation is hiring an Engineer Sr. - Engineer Prin. for an on-site role in Tulsa, OK. This position supports advanced engineering work that contributes to safe, effective, efficient, and economical outcomes on complex projects, including transmission line planning and design. The compensation range for this role is $98,993.00 - $151,132.50 per year (Compensation Grade SP20-008).

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced proficiency and specialized technical expertise (for example: system production, underground systems, extensive or thermo-hydraulic control systems, distribution standards, fossil or nuclear plant operations).
• Serve as a recognized authority within an area of expertise and influence technical direction across the organizational unit.
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities for others across a work group, team, department, corporate entity, or external partners; assume project or function manager responsibilities for assigned tasks.
• Develop, recommend, and implement plans including scheduling, resource, and cost information to address complex engineering problems involving wide-ranging internal and external input.
• Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to complex, multi-functional or multi-disciplinary problems and interfaces.
• Generate new ideas and approaches with system-wide impact.
• Lead the preparation and presentation of complex technical topics clearly and persuasively to senior management, professional organizations, and regulatory bodies.
• Demonstrate credibility and highly developed presentation skills on technical issues.
• Build teams and networks across AEP, other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia.
• Make some technical decisions based on calculated risks without management review, and make long-range plan decisions using analysis of highly uncertain inputs and outcomes.
• Make decisions across organizational boundaries where differences of opinion are likely, including considering impacts across the organization.
• Demonstrate vision by identifying business opportunities for the organizational unit.
• Understand how engineering strategies and decisions affect relationships with customers and suppliers.
• Plan and scope transmission (T-Line) projects.
• Communicate with stakeholders.
• Support structure type selection.
• Evaluate geotechnical reports.
• Contribute to design of multiple foundation types.
• Perform wire tension and clearance evaluation.
• Use PLS-CADD for design work.
• Perform field visits (approximately 10% travel).

Requirements

• Typically 4 years or more of related engineering experience plus a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program; or
• 2 years of related engineering experience plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology may satisfy the degree requirement if the individual obtains a certified PE license.
• Acceptable alternative: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program. Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
• VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with a Non-ABET accredited program.
