Engineering/Maitenance Technician
Job Description
Join the Hotel Hartness engineering team to keep hotel and resort systems in safe, efficient, guest-ready condition through maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Complete day-to-day general maintenance and repairs across guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, and grounds
- Troubleshoot and assist with repairs to plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and refrigeration systems
- Perform preventive maintenance according to the property PM schedule
- Handle guest and staff maintenance requests using the work order system (Quore), prioritizing urgent, guest-facing needs
- Support monitoring and maintenance of building systems including boilers, HVAC units, lighting, fire alarms, and life safety systems
- Perform light building and finishing work: carpentry, painting, drywall repair, tiling, grouting, caulking, and fixture replacements
- Assist with exterior upkeep and seasonal grounds maintenance such as snow removal, salting walkways, or landscaping support
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in engineering workspaces, including tools, storage rooms, and mechanical areas
- Follow OSHA regulations, property safety policies, and standard operating procedures while working safely
- Assist with set-up and breakdown of events when needed
- Operate and maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines
- Communicate progress, safety concerns, and escalations to the Engineering Manager and Front Office
Requirements
- 1–3 years of hands-on maintenance experience preferred (hotel, resort, or facilities setting a plus)
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments
- Familiarity with reading blueprints, manuals, or schematics is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training preferred
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate utility vehicles or maintenance carts

- Tools and equipment: hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts
- Systems: HVAC equipment, electrical panels, plumbing systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 10 hours per shift
- Must be able to lift, push, or carry up to 80 lbs regularly
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing stairs/ladders
- Work may require time in hot, cold, noisy, or outdoor environments
- Must be able to respond quickly and safely to emergencies
