EO/IR Modeling Engineer (Thermal Infrared)
Job Description
As an EO/IR Modeling Engineer specializing in Thermal Infrared, you will create, evaluate, and validate infrared target and threat signature models using physics-based techniques and empirical data for Army programs, and you will integrate these models into on-site simulations, including both all-digital and hardware-in-the-loop environments at Redstone Arsenal.
Responsibilities
- Develop, analyze, and validate target and threat signature models across infrared, near-infrared, and visible wavebands.
- Apply physics-based modeling tools and empirical data to characterize EO/IR signatures.
- Conduct verification and validation by comparing modeled results with reference or measured data.
- Create and employ analytical, data-processing, and visualization tools to support model development, verification, and validation.
- Assist in integrating EO/IR signature models into all-digital and hardware-in-the-loop simulation setups.
- Examine measurement data to identify trends, discrepancies, and sources of uncertainty.
- Produce technical documentation, reports, presentations, and briefings detailing methods and findings.
- Collaborate with government customers, industry partners, and other members of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
- Zero to ten years of relevant professional experience, with potential for entry, mid, or senior levels based on qualifications.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience using MATLAB, Python, or other scientific computing environments.
- Ability to analyze technical data and clearly communicate results.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing as part of a technical team.
- Willingness to work full-time on-site at Redstone Arsenal.
