Principal Systems Engineer - Passive Sensing
Job Description
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - Passive Sensing for an on-site role supporting advanced electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) passive remote sensing systems. In this position, you will contribute to system architecture and definition while helping develop, model, test, and characterize passive sensing capabilities under government clearance requirements.
This opportunity is based in Baltimore, MD (on-site), with the role located from Linthicum, MD. The salary range is USD 108,800 - 163,200 per year.
What You’ll Do
- Support architecture definitions and trade studies for IRAD, CRAD, and execution programs
- Design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy novel EOIR sensors
- Build and maintain physics-based sensor models
- Develop and quantify performance metrics to evaluate system performance
- Assess data quality and the impact of artifacts on results
- Represent system performance within functional and analytical models
How the Work Fits
You will coordinate with guidance from architects to implement program-specific technical needs, including regular technical interactions with a multi-disciplinary team. The role emphasizes system architecture and definition for passive systems as part of developmental efforts, where contributions today are intended to be leveraged by customers for years in the future.
Depending on background, work may relate to hardware selection for airborne sensors, optics, dewars, focal planes, processors, and related subsystems, as well as data processing and exploitation such as real-time analysis, ground tests, anomaly resolution, and algorithm development. The scope may also include integration and test activities such as brassboards, lab and ground tests, and flight tests, along with software/firmware interactions.
