Job Description

Mid to senior level forensic mechanical engineering role based in Tampa, Florida (remote), focused on investigations, expert consultation, and courtroom testimony for mechanical systems across commercial, industrial, manufacturing, and residential sites, with travel across local through inter-regional destinations.

Responsibilities

  • Explore root causes and origins of failures, damages, or defects in mechanical systems and components across industrial, commercial, and residential sites.
  • Assess mechanical system failures, identify root causes, evaluate construction quality, and review design and maintenance practices.
  • Conduct field investigations, lead multi-party examinations, and document the condition of damaged properties.
  • Study failure modes and applicable codes, delivering repair or replacement recommendations as required.
  • Prepare precise reports and supporting documentation for clients that clearly present opinions and conclusions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on large, complex assignments.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with clients and consulting professionals.
  • Stay current with company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Engage in ongoing training and development to keep knowledge and skills up to date.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 to 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in insurance or legal forensics.
  • Residency in Florida is required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the resident state.
  • Willingness to participate as an expert witness and provide court testimony.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Desire to learn, excel, and grow within the profession.
  • Flexibility to travel, approximately 30 to 50 percent of the time.

Physical and Mental Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites
  • Must be able to access and inspect all areas of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience evaluating mechanical system and component failures in commercial or industrial settings
  • Multi-state licensing or an active NCEES Record is preferred
  • Experience providing expert witness testimony is a plus
