Forward Deployed AI Engineer (In Training)

New York, United States $170k - $210k/yr Full time Posted 1d ago

Job Description

Forward-Deployed AI Engineer (In Training) at Turing gives you a structured path from intensive training into live, end-to-end AI client work. In New York City, you complete an eight-week Turing Akademia program and then transition into full-time forward-deployed projects where you own client outcomes and build production AI systems designed for measurable business impact. If you like taking responsibility from discovery through deployment, this role is built for that momentum.

What you’ll do

  • Work directly with customers to move through ambiguity, identify high-value opportunities, and translate workflow understanding into clearly defined business outcomes an AI solution should drive.
  • Design and build production AI systems, covering areas such as multi-agent workflows, orchestration, tool use, context engineering, memory and state, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Deliver reliability at scale by implementing the surrounding production layer: APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and distributed systems.
  • Complete your first placement in Turing Akademia by building and demonstrating these capabilities through hands-on intensive work.
  • Present your work to stakeholders, manage expectations, clearly explain technical decisions, and respond constructively to feedback and pushback.
  • Lead solution execution from discovery through deployment and measurable impact while owning key operational requirements including evaluation, observability, security, reliability, latency, scalability, and cost, staying hands-on throughout.

Skills and experience needed

  • 5+ years as a full-stack developer (experience level: 5+ years as a full-stack developer).
  • Typically 5+ years as a software engineer or full-stack developer building production or near-production systems.
  • Strong production engineering experience.
  • Experience with programming, APIs, databases, backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and software development practices.
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly, handle ambiguity, collaborate with stakeholders, and stay calm under pressure.
  • A track record of initiative, solving unstructured problems, responding well to feedback, and learning new technologies quickly.

Technologies

  • Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
  • APIs
  • Data pipelines
  • Distributed systems

Turing values

  • Client first: clients are central to what the team does, with success as the ultimate measure of value.
  • Start-up speed: move fast, stay agile, and favor action because momentum drives quality.
  • AI forward: help clients build the future of AI and apply those lessons to the team’s own roles and workflow to amplify productivity.

Advantages of joining Turing

  • Work at the frontier of AI by helping leading AI labs improve advanced models through expert datasets, RL environments, and first-of-a-kind benchmarks.
  • Contribute to leading-edge AI research and showcase work at ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS.
  • Apply frontier AI innovation in the enterprise to solve real-world business challenges using lessons from leading AI labs.
  • Collaborate with exceptional colleagues with deep AI experience from Google, Meta, Amazon, and other leading technology companies.
  • Move with the speed, ownership, and impact of a startup while working on AI initiatives.
