Gen AI Engineer - Python - Vice President
Job Description
The Gen AI Engineer will help establish and implement new or revised application systems and programming capabilities in coordination with the Technology team. This senior role focuses on application systems analysis and programming, including scalable Python backend development and Generative AI solutions such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
Role Overview
This position is responsible for leading application systems analysis and programming activities. The engineer will ensure application design aligns with the overall architecture blueprint while building and operating high-quality Python services for Generative AI applications.
Responsibilities
- Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions, support business goals, and identify system enhancements needed to deploy new products and process improvements.
- Resolve high-impact problems and projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
- Provide expertise in application programming and ensure design adherence to the architecture blueprint.
- Apply advanced knowledge of system flow to develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of how business areas such as architecture and infrastructure integrate to achieve business objectives.
- Perform in-depth analysis using interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Serve as an advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary.
- Assess risk in support of business decisions, considering the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by complying with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; adhering to policy; applying sound ethical judgment; and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient Python code for Generative AI applications.
- Integrate and leverage GenAI-related APIs (including OpenAI and Gemini) to build new features and products.
- Implement and optimize Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to improve model capabilities and generate contextually relevant responses.
- Develop and deploy robust backend services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver solutions.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to support code quality and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews to promote high-quality code and best practices.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and security.
- (Optional, if relevant) Support deployments and application management using cloud container orchestration services such as OpenShift and ECS.
- (Optional, if relevant) Familiarity with Lightspeed (referencing a specific internal tool or technology) is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Python.
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI concepts and technologies.
- Demonstrable experience using GenAI-related APIs such as OpenAI and Gemini.
- Practical expertise in implementing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
- Expertise in at least one modern Python web framework: FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including Git, testing, and CI/CD.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
