Job Description
The General Engineer leads and supports engineering efforts across ComEd's utility infrastructure, including electric and gas distribution, transmission, substations, and related systems. This onsite role in Oakbrook Terrace, IL offers a salary range of USD 92,000 to 126,500 per year and requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with relevant experience to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Performs moderately complex engineering assignments, exercising independent judgment under the guidance of senior engineers, including data collection and analysis, interpretation of results, drawing conclusions, and presenting recommendations to management. Time allocation is approximately 50%.
- Leads small engineering projects or tasks, coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure technical requirements and standards are met. Time allocation is approximately 30%.
- Provides technical support and consultation to engineering and operating groups, assisting in the design, installation, and maintenance of systems and equipment, including review and validation of studies, blueprints, or designs against established engineering principles.
- Participates in the evaluation and improvement of technical systems and processes, contributing to project planning and implementation, and may assign and review work as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or a Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
- 4 to 7 years of professional engineering experience.
- Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform very complex or unique assignments.
- Minimum of two related career experiences (defined as changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department) or Engineer in Training, or 50 percent complete with an advanced technical degree, MBA, or Project Management Certification.

Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree or graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management Certification
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with all management levels
- Strong written and oral communication, presentation, report generation, and technical writing skills
- Working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar
