Harness Design Release Engineer

The Harness Design Release Engineer advances the design, integration, and release of power and signal distribution wiring for GM vehicle programs, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

• Provide program-specific sourcing requirements and PSDS technical input for supplier technical reviews.
• Develop the initial harness parts list and perform complexity studies.
• Maintain program continuity and consistency by understanding the PSDS Statement of Requirements, program timing, issues, and plans, and by managing required changes.
• Coordinate and manage supplier activities within the engineering factory.
• Participate in interface tradeoff discussions and help resolve system integration issues.
• Manage cost, quality, mass, and related performance metrics for the power and signal distribution system, including program and content changes.
• Support pre-production build events, including both physical and virtual builds.
• Ensure the design, development, and release of the wiring system are fully integrated into the vehicle architecture with a strong focus on quality.
• Lead Product Development Team meetings to ensure timing and deliverables are achieved.
• Lead or support benchmarking activities to drive innovation, tradeoff decisions, and cost-benefit analysis.
• Lead or support Peer Reviews, Wire Harness Assessments, and assembly plant launch and remediation activities.
• Perform complex design analysis, develop engineering designs including subsystems, and implement engineering changes.
• Define and balance system requirements.
• Plan and execute test and development programs.
• Release parts and subsystems for production.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience; experience in power signal or wire harness packaging is preferred.
• Understanding of engineering theory and the operating principles of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Prior hands-on mechanical or electrical troubleshooting and repair experience; relevant personal or hobby automotive experience is also valued.
• Working knowledge of engineering software and systems relevant to the role.
• Willingness to travel as needed for the position.

Hybrid work arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI, at least three times per week, or as directed by the business.

Relocation and travel expectations

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. The selected candidate will be required to travel less than 25 percent for this role. This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Record review.
