Imaging Machine Learning Engineer

The role supports Google’s Platforms and Devices team by applying imaging machine learning to improve image quality across both hardware and software. The work includes fine-tuning 3A algorithms and developing ML-assisted tooling for IQ tuning, testing, benchmarking, and calibration workflows.

Role Focus

Optimize image quality across the full technology stack by ensuring device capabilities are used effectively through software tuning. The position also drives algorithm refinement and automates imaging quality processes using machine learning to improve tuning efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Optimize image quality across the hardware and software stack, aligning software tuning with underlying hardware capabilities.
• Fine-tune 3A algorithms to maintain strong performance across changing lighting and environmental conditions.
• Build software tools that use machine learning (ML) to streamline image quality (IQ) tuning, testing, benchmarking, and calibration workflows.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Imaging Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience in Image Quality, Computer Vision, or a related technical field.
• 2 years of experience with Python and C++ for algorithm development and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree, or PhD in a related field.
• 3 years of professional experience in a related field.
• Industry experience with SoC/ISP constraints, 3A tuning, or applying Deep Learning to real-time imaging pipelines.
• A proven track record delivering high-quality, commercial, market-facing consumer cameras.
• Strong history of self-directed learning and the ability to rapidly master new technologies and domains.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional partners.

Salary: USD 132,000 - 189,000 per year
