The Site AI Engineer will operate on Suffolk Construction projects in Boston, partnering with project AI Champions to turn AI concepts into tangible on-site solutions. The role focuses on identifying pain points, redesigning workflows, and deploying agentic AI that enhances reporting, RFIs, planning, and materials tracking across projects, advancing the Construction Site of the Future.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities and redesign workflows by leading discovery sessions, mapping value streams, evaluating process and data maturity, and logging AI use cases with high impact and low effort.
- Assess process and data maturity on sites, surface gaps, and develop phased improvement plans with Operations Excellence to establish a solid baseline before deploying agents.
- Evaluate market solutions, run pilots, measure impact, and scale successful implementations across projects.
- Rapidly build AI agents from user stories in AWS Bedrock/Sagemaker, ChatGPT Enterprise, and similar frameworks within days, connecting front end to Teams/SharePoint and back end to Databricks Lakehouse, AWS services, or equivalent sources.
- Develop enterprise-grade engineering and LLMOps practices, building Agentic RAG pipelines backed by data stores like Opensearch, automating infrastructure with GitHub Actions, and monitoring latency, cost, adoption, and model drift.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering to design and maintain ETL pipelines, API integrations, and event-driven connectors supporting RAG and AI agents.
- Coordinate cross-cloud orchestration by combining AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, and Azure OpenAI behind secure connectors and packaging agents for smooth rollout.
- Lead change enablement by training crews, collecting feedback, iterating solutions, and tracking adoption and ROI metrics; apply influence model principles to embed agents into daily routines and SOPs, monitoring behavior-change KPIs.
- Communicate with project leadership and clients on agent impact in business terms; contribute use cases and playbooks for Suffolk’s Construction Site of the Future.
- Prepare clear user stories, data specs, and acceptance criteria for complex solutions that require collaboration with central AI Studio, Data Engineering, or Data Science teams to scale prototypes into enterprise solutions.
- Ensure every on-site AI tool complies with Suffolk’s information security, data governance, and client confidentiality standards.
Requirements
- 4 to 6 or more years in AI engineering, full-stack data applications, or data science, including at least 2 years building production LLM, RAG, or agentic solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Hands-on experience in construction or heavy process industries (manufacturing, oil and gas, chemicals) is a significant plus.
- Proven process excellence background with familiarity in Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt and experience diagnosing process and data gaps while supporting change management with Operations Excellence.
- Strong facilitation and communication skills.
- Hands-on expertise with Claude Code, Devin AI, MS Copilot, and other coding assistants.
- Programming and data stack: Python, SQL, Fast API, Databricks Lakehouse, and vector stores.
- DevOps and infrastructure as code: GitHub Actions, Terraform or CloudFormation automation, or similar CI/CD tooling; solid Git/GitHub workflow discipline.
- Integration and ETL skills: basic knowledge of ETL/ELT design, Airflow or Databricks Workflows, and REST/GraphQL API development; experience partnering with Data Engineering on source-to-lake and lake-to-agent pipelines.

Role
As an on-site catalyst on Suffolk projects nationwide, you will collaborate with each project’s AI Champion to surface pain points, redesign workflows, and deploy AI agents that streamline reporting, accelerate RFIs, improve lookahead planning, provide progress updates, and enhance materials tracking. When needed, you will draft user stories and coordinate development with the central AI Studio to advance solutions, with a primary location in Boston, Massachusetts.
Working Conditions
Role responsibilities involve extended periods seated at a desk, frequent communication, keyboard use, and occasional movement on site. The work environment is office-based with a range from quiet to moderately active conditions; travel to active job sites is anticipated as required.

Compensation Information

The base salary for this position is USD 170,000 to USD 222,000 per year, with actual compensation reflecting skills, experience, and education.
