Integrated Planning Principal Engineer

The Integrated Planning Principal Engineer serves as a technical and program leader supporting SRP’s water and energy service objectives. This role is a key advisor for the IntegratedSystem Plan (ISP), providing engineering discipline leadership, guidance, and quality review of planning studies and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as an engineering project/program leader or engineer on large or complex initiatives with many integrated features.
• Prepare specifications, evaluate bids, and develop recommendation materials for management review for major procurements.
• Act as a staff consultant and/or technical advisor within a specific engineering specialty.
• Perform engineering design, analysis, and studies in a technical specialty that requires strong knowledge of related fields.
• Provide engineering discipline leadership while administering and reviewing work performed by consultants and other contributors.
• Prepare and/or conduct written and oral reports and presentations as needed.
• Participate on industry committees and task forces as SRP’s representative when required or requested.
• Maintain an active leadership role in promoting safety within the department.
• Lead engineering development efforts by training and developing engineers on technical, project management, and/or best-practice related activities.
• Establish discipline standards and facilitate standards change processes when required.
• Lead collaboration across SRP.
• Represent SRP in legal and regulatory matters or technically focused proceedings when required.
• Provide substantive thought leadership to support new ideas, products, services, and/or business processes that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and/or customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate leadership in organizational change management to support successful implementation of new products, services, and/or business processes.
• Serve as a key technical advisor for the IntegratedSystem Plan (ISP), delivering engineering discipline leadership, guidance, and quality review across planning studies, technical analyses, consultant work products, and planning recommendations.
• Develop analytical frameworks and synthesize complex technical results into actionable insights for strategic planning and investment decisions.
• Create and align technical content, messaging, and planning recommendations for diverse stakeholder groups, communicating engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Lead complex planning studies and special projects that identify system needs, emerging risks, capability gaps, and long-term planning solutions.
• Support development and execution of the Integrated Annual Plan through technical leadership, peer review, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Represent SRP in industry organizations, technical working groups, task forces, and committees by bringing leading practices, innovative methodologies, emerging technologies, and industry insights into planning processes.
• Provide mentorship and technical coaching to engineers and project leads to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional development within planning teams.
• Influence strategic direction through stakeholder engagement and integration of best practices in system planning, modeling, and decision-support methodologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice.
• Demonstrated successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.
• Contributed to authoring, publishing, and/or presenting internal or external technical papers.
• Experience with budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope.
• Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts, including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services.
• Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP.
• Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, and possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Occasional travel to suppliers’ facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA, Masters in Engineering, or any state or internationally recognized Professional Engineering registration by the International Professional Engineers Agreement.

Location and Work Model

Tempe, AZ, US (Hybrid). SRP offers a hybrid workplace, allowing eligible employees to telework up to three days per week when the role can be performed remotely and the employee has sufficient technical capability. All employees must live and work in Arizona.
