Role applies advanced I&C design expertise to solve complex problems and deliver design outputs for SRNS projects in the nuclear and process chemical industries, onsite in Aiken, SC.
Responsibilities
- Apply specialized knowledge in instrumentation and control or related fields to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced engineering practices and handle complex requirements, new materials or processes, and challenging coordination into problem solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in identifying solutions to complex problems and be recognized as an expert in a technical area.
- Offer direction across departmental boundaries on programs seeking new approaches and novel applications of engineering or scientific principles.
- Evaluate program results and prepare reports with recommendations based on assessments.
- Identify and propose improvements where established technology components and methodologies are inadequate for solutions.
- Stay informed of technology advances in the area of specialization and develop plans with schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements to tackle technical tasks.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, oversee expenditures, and review quality of work.
- Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues, and management.
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
- Enhance expertise through leadership roles in local technical societies.
- Demonstrate creativity through patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers, and articles.
- Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
- Primary duties include engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development, and generation of design outputs such as P&IDs, control logics, loop diagrams, instrument indices, setpoint lists, instrument and control valve specifications, DCS/PLC design, instrument location and installation design, panel layouts, and vendor document reviews.
- Deliver engineering services using SRNS processes and procedures; programmatic guidance provided by SRNS.
Requirements
- US citizenship is required.
- Q clearance is required.
- D. degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience; or MS with 8+ years; or BS with 10+ years of experience.
- BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Nuclear, or I&C Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of these disciplines.
- Ten years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
- Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and distributed control systems.
- Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CAD software is required.
- Ability to perform weekly field walk-downs at the job site, which may involve uneven surfaces and active construction areas, walking more than half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and donning protective clothing.
