Junior Data Scientist, Petroleum Engineering & Well Integrity
Job Description
Build early-career data science capabilities to support well integrity work focused on verifying safe well performance at IPT Global in Houston, TX (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Support analysis of well barrier assurance and verification data under direction from senior data scientists
- Assist with time series evaluation from well control equipment and help develop predictive maintenance models
- Apply physics-based and data-driven modeling to field and test data
- Learn to address noise and real-world test conditions while improving model reliability
- Identify trends, anomalies, and patterns in operational data
- Help build dashboards and KPIs for internal teams and clients
- Prepare and present findings to colleagues and stakeholders
- Contribute to technical documentation; as experience grows, support publications, conference presentations, and patent work
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree completed or expected within six months in a related engineering or quantitative field
- Degree field options include: Petroleum, Mechanical, or other Engineering; or Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field
- Strong foundation in statistics, including regression, probability distributions, and sampling
- Some experience with Python, R, or MATLAB from coursework, internships, or personal projects
- No professional experience required

- Familiarity with well barrier concepts or standards such as NORSOK D-010, ISO 16530, API RP 90, or API Standard 53
- Experience working with sensor or time series data from instrumented equipment or lab testing
- Exposure to machine learning methods and model validation
- Familiarity with Azure or another cloud platform, plus Git
- Technical writing experience (example: thesis or capstone report)
