Junior Non-Destructive Examination Engineer

The Junior Non-Destructive Examination Engineer will support and enhance inspection technologies across manufacturing facilities in Illinois. This onsite role in Spring Grove, IL emphasizes improving NDT processes, building and maintaining inspection documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

• Support and improve non-destructive testing methods including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), and Radiographic Testing (RT)
• Develop and maintain NDT procedures, work instructions, inspection techniques, and ultrasonic reference standards
• Use structured problem-solving approaches such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Fishbone, and Lean to address inspection and manufacturing issues
• Evaluate and implement new inspection technologies, including Phased Array UT, immersion systems, automation, and robotics
• Create solutions that improve safety and ergonomics in NDT operations
• Assist with equipment calibration, verification activities, documentation, and ensuring inspection readiness

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
• 0–5 years of engineering experience, including internships, co-ops, research, senior design projects, or manufacturing experience
• Understanding of NDT methods such as UT, MT, and PT
• Ability to qualify under ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712 certification programs
• Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
• CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)

• Experience in metals, forging, steel, or heavy manufacturing
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems, inspection reporting software, or quality management systems

Additional Role Information

• Work occurs in manufacturing facilities and on the shop floor
• Travel of up to 15% between facilities may be required
