Structural Dynamics Engineer
Job Description
BNH is seeking a Structural Dynamics Engineer to support the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) in Arnold AFB, TN. The position is onsite and focuses on structural analysis, finite element modeling, design evaluation, and collaboration within an integrated engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in depth structural analyses of mechanical components and assemblies to support integrity, safety, and performance, including evaluation of stress, strain, deformation, fatigue, and load distribution.
- Model and simulate structural behavior under a range of conditions and loads using FEA software (with ANSYS preferred) to predict responses and support design optimization.
- Recommend appropriate materials for construction or manufacturing based on mechanical properties, durability, and cost effectiveness aligned to project requirements.
- Collaborate with design teams to assess and refine structural designs, providing feedback to help ensure safety and performance standards are met.
- Determine and analyze external loads, including dynamic and thermal forces, and their structural effects by calculating stresses and strains to identify potential weaknesses.
- Investigate structural failures or anomalies, identify root causes, and support corrective actions, which may include site visits, forensic engineering activities, and repair or improvement recommendations.
- Use CAD software to develop detailed drawings and models of structural components, including connections, supports, and load bearing elements.
- Maintain comprehensive records of structural analyses, design changes, and project progress, and communicate findings through reports and presentations.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, machinists, and project managers, to align structural needs with overall project goals.
- Stay current on advancements in structural engineering, materials, and analysis methods.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Structural Engineering with minimum 3 years performing structural design and/or stress analysis, or MS in the same fields with at least 1 year in structural design and/or stress analysis.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to Air Force Security requirements.
- BNH will not sponsor applicants for employment authorization or provide immigration-related support for this position, including H1b, F1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, E-2, E-3, L-1, or other work authorization forms that require employer immigration support.
