Lead Data Engineer - Data Scientist
Job Description
In this role, you will lead data engineering and ML-enabled analytics within Cybersecurity for Identity Access Management. Wells Fargo is building solutions that strengthen access governance and help teams detect anomalous behavior across large volumes of identity events. You will design and operate data pipelines and model-driven capabilities while working within security, privacy, model risk, and regulatory requirements.
Location: Columbus, Ohio (onsite)
Salary range: USD 119,000 - 206,000 per yearly
Minimum experience: 5+ years
What you’ll do
- Lead complex initiatives with broad impact and participate in large-scale software planning for Identity and Access management.
- Design, develop, and run tooling to discover issues in data and applications, then report findings to engineering and product leadership.
- Apply statistical and data science methods to business problems in Identity and Access Management.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on ML and AI, applying mathematical and statistical techniques to large datasets.
- Design, support, and operate data pipelines, data models, dashboards, and API integrations delivering real-time and batch analytics.
- Design and conduct experiments, statistical analyses, and hypothesis testing to evaluate proposals supporting controls, policies, and operational processes.
- Build AI-powered capabilities that identify inappropriate access, recommend entitlements before users request them, and detect anomalous behavior across millions of identity events.
- Lead IAM team members across operations, onboarding, initiatives, and engineering, partnering with line of business and lines of defense teams to translate analytical needs into technical solutions.
- Establish engineering and analytical best practices for developing solutions.
- Develop, test, deploy, and support ML-enabled analytical solutions, guiding teammates on ML, AI, and statistical techniques to drive AI/ML adoption across IAM.
- Monitor model health, reliability, and drift, supporting remediation and continuous improvement.
- Use AI-assisted development and analysis tools (for example, GitHub Copilot and approved code-centric agents) and apply technical judgment to validate AI-assisted outputs.
- Build with responsible AI in development and production environments, accounting for model limitations, security risks, and operational considerations, and ensuring alignment to security, compliance, privacy, and ethical standards.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.
- 5+ years of experience with Python data science libraries including Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-Learn, plus exposure to a deep learning framework such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
