Machine Learning Engineer - LLMs
Job Description
Hadrian Automation is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the machine learning lifecycle for large language models applied to manufacturing data packages. The role emphasizes fine-tuned language model development, document understanding workflows, and evaluation approaches that measure system behavior and user impact.
Role Summary
Own research, development, and deployment of language-model solutions that understand and reason over manufacturing documents. Focus areas include fine-tuned models for document understanding, annotation and active learning workflows, synthetic data augmentation, and evaluation frameworks designed to quantify real-world effects for users.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and deploy fine-tuned language models for document classification, key information extraction, table parsing, and multi-page/document reasoning
- Partner with the core engineering team to build and maintain annotation tooling, implement active learning loops, and engineer synthetic data augmentation strategies
- Create evaluation frameworks that go beyond accuracy and CER, with precise measurement of system behavior and user impact
- Collaborate with the broader machine learning team to help set technical and product roadmaps for the AI platform
- Focus on reducing the βlong tail,β where each accuracy improvement translates into meaningful time savings at scale
Required Qualifications
- 5-8 years of professional AI/ML experience, including at least 2 years working directly with large language models (fine-tuning, RLHF/DPO, or pre-training), with special consideration for experience with layout-aware models
- Strong Python and PyTorch skills, including building custom training loops, loss functions, and data loaders from scratch when needed
- Production deployment ownership, including shipping models to production and responsibility for endpoints and model health
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience valued equally
