Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineer role focused on designing waste heat recovery equipment with required codes, calculations, and CAD documentation for fabrication and installation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the project team to review customer specifications and define project requirements to support efficient project execution
- Apply ASME Section I and ASME Section VIII Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements to support project design
- Perform code calculations to validate boiler tube, piping, and drum designs, including welded joint configurations
- Use AutoCAD 2D and 3D to create top-level boiler design documents including models, arrangements, and section views for customer submittals and downstream engineering work
- Calculate equipment weight and center of gravity and prepare shipping sketches
- Support specification preparation for integrating ancillary equipment (fans, duct burners, catalyst, heat exchangers, pumps) into the overall design
- Provide design support during fabrication and jobsite installation
- Assist with developing and maintaining project schedules
Requirements
- Education: Four-year degree in a related Engineering discipline (equivalent experience and education combination considered)
- Experience: 1–3 years related experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Mechanical engineering: 1 year (required)
- AutoCAD: 1 year (required)
- Strong analytical skills to perform essential job functions
- Good communication skills and ability to participate actively in internal and external (customer) meetings
- General understanding of boiler system design and drafting requirements
- Working knowledge of industrial steel equipment fabrication and industrial pressure part welding
- Ability to acquire working knowledge of ASME Section I & VIII Pressure Vessel Codes
- Advanced CAD skills (2D and/or 3D)
- Ability to use typical technical and office software for non-CAD tasks
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Demonstrate professional conduct and active communication skills
- Provide fast, accurate, complete customer service and build strong customer relationships
- Ability to set priorities efficiently, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills to track simultaneous project deadlines and maintain accurate records
- Ability to resolve problems, identify opportunities for process improvement, and support business requirements
- Ability to handle company and customer information in a confidential manner
