Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer HVAC role at Lightera is an onsite position in Norcross, GA focused on overseeing the reliable operation and maintenance of facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The role also provides backup support for utility systems that support manufacturing operations and coordinates with HVAC Technicians, trades, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of facility HVAC equipment across the site.
  • Supervise HVAC Technicians and coordinate with in-plant trades and/or contractors to support maintenance, modifications, optimization, and configuration efforts for HVAC reliability and performance.
  • From time to time, design and manage system improvement work and support expansion projects as needed.
  • Provide backup support to the Central Utility Plant Engineer for maintenance of the Central Utility Plant and associated support systems used to supply chilled water, low/medium/high pressure compressed air, hot water, county water, tower water, domestic water, process cooling water, and other services for the manufacturing campus.
  • Support a safe work environment by identifying and correcting unsafe conditions and modeling appropriate PPE practices.
  • Work with HVAC Technicians, trades, and contractors to operate, monitor, and maintain more than 200 air handling units (AHUs) using chilled water and hot water, including prefilter and HEPA filtration to maintain cleanroom conditions.
  • Work with HVAC Technicians, trades, and contractors to operate, monitor, and maintain fewer than 20 Direct Expansion (DX) units and their associated equipment serving office areas.
  • Work with HVAC Technicians, trades, and contractors to operate, monitor, and maintain more than 100 exhaust fans and scrubber fans (belt or direct drive) serving laboratories, production equipment, bathrooms, and other building exhaust needs.
  • Partner with the Central Plant Engineer to service and maintain utility piping across the facility, including hot/chilled/tempered water supply and returns, county water supply, condensate drains, and compressed air.
  • Schedule and manage HVAC Technician time for maintenance activities on HVAC equipment.
  • Write and/or maintain procedural instructions for operating and maintaining HVAC equipment and other systems under the Mechanical Engineer HVAC scope.
  • Coordinate with contractors for repairs or maintenance that cannot be completed by in-house trade resources.
  • Inspect and maintain documentation covering the condition and status of HVAC equipment, and immediately address safety risks identified during inspections (including conditions that could enable legionella presence).
  • Complete additional assigned projects supporting production and facility operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Preferred areas of study include Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience working with and maintaining HVAC equipment at large facilities

Compensation

From $90,000.00 per year
