Job Description

The Metrology Engineer role focuses on the design, development, and deployment of metrological sensors and calibration standards for electromagnetic sensing, with an emphasis on LiDAR and structured light systems, to support government and commercial clients including Navy operations. This position is on-site in Norco, California.

Responsibilities

  • Sensor and Standard Development: Lead the design, development, and deployment of metrological sensors and calibration standards for electromagnetic sensing and directed energy, emphasizing LiDAR and structured light applications.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for tools, instrumentation, and processes, serving as a knowledge resource for junior scientists and colleagues to facilitate knowledge transfer and best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and lead initiatives to improve delivery times and support for sensors and calibration standards by leveraging new technologies and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Education: Master of Science or higher in Physics, Optics, Optical Science and Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience with optical propagation modeling and simulation, with emphasis on LiDAR design or structured light propagation.
  • Programming: 3+ years of experience coding in C/C++, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Design and Simulation: 2+ years of design experience with optical ray-tracing and/or finite element method (FEM) simulation software or related scientific computing software, focusing on metrological sensor and standard development.
  • Laser Systems: Experience with Class IV continuous wave or pulsed laser systems.
  • Measurement Confidence: Understanding of measurement uncertainty quantification and its relation to calibration.

  • Citizenship and Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Compensation

Salary: USD 120,000 - 145,000 per year
