Job Description

Natural Gas Engineer with 6+ years of experience based in Kimley-Horn's Reston, VA office; onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts across civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation and control, and related disciplines.
  • Provide technical leadership for natural gas pipeline and facility engineering.
  • Design pipeline facilities including metering and regulating stations as well as compressor stations.
  • Develop process and piping flow diagrams (PFDs and P&IDs), construction plans, sections, details, and the associated materials lists.
  • Carry out engineering calculations to support technical studies, reports, and design decisions.
  • Coordinate supporting activities such as surveying, geotechnical investigations, permitting, and land acquisition.
  • Prepare specifications for materials and equipment to support procurement and factory acceptance testing.
  • Lead proposal development and scope definition, including conceptual designs, execution plans, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Bring experience in the design of electric transmission lines and/or distribution systems.

Requirements

  • Six or more years of relevant engineering design experience.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an ABET-accredited program in mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 12 months, preferred.
  • Familiarity with 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8.
  • Experience with task management, concept design, and supporting project management activities.
  • Comfort coordinating with clients, attending client meetings, and overseeing quality standards.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; CADWorx is preferred.
