Job Description

HKA Enterprises is seeking a Power Distribution Design Engineer to support electrical distribution system design across overhead and underground applications for a range of development projects. The role blends office-based engineering work with meaningful field activity, including inspections, safety participation, and potential storm response support depending on the needs of the project team.

Overview

This career track provides design support for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, and commercial, industrial, and residential development. Work relies on technical engineering calculations and analysis, incorporating accurate field data collection to complete design deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Produce electric distribution design drawings and the Bill Of Material (BOM) required for construction of simple projects.
  • Collect field data using standard tools and processes, and perform project-specific inspections accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop familiarity with technical analysis including cable pulling calculations, cable voltage drop calculations, transformer loading calculations, and pole loading analysis calculations.
  • Become familiar with client construction standards, construction and workflow processes, and customer charging guidelines as required.
  • Generate permitting and other supporting documentation as needed for projects.
  • Understand the hazards and dangers associated with the distribution system, and help prevent dangerous situations while mitigating hazards during both office and field work.
  • Actively support others’ safety in all aspects of the work.
  • Attend and engage in scheduled safety meetings, and follow driving and site hazard identification, mitigation and reporting training.
  • Have the ability to work on a storm response local or travel team as a Driver and Assessor Learner.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based, with an expectation of significant field work.
  • Field work may include exposure to inclement weather such as extreme heat or cold, high humidity, rain, snow, and icy conditions.
  • Field exposure to insects, animals, and vegetation may pose a threat.
  • Work is performed under close supervision for mentorship, guidance, and training.
