Senior Transportation Engineer - Roadway Design, based onsite in Maitland, Florida, leads state roadway design and project delivery across Central Florida. The role employs MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer within both Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build settings and includes mentoring responsibilities for junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of state roadway design plans, including alignments, profiles, cross sections, maintenance of traffic, and quantities.
- Utilize MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer for advanced 3D modeling and plan production.
- Serve as the project technical lead, providing direction and oversight to engineers, designers, and CADD staff.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure all deliverables meet client standards, scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate across drainage, traffic, structures, and utilities to maintain integrated designs.
- Evaluate design alternatives and recommend solutions based on engineering judgment, cost, and constructability.
- Support both design-build and design-bid-build delivery, including coordination with contractors and stakeholders.
- Assist Project Managers with project execution, client coordination, and technical decision making.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and design staff.
- Participate in QA/QC processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support construction-phase services, including RFIs, submittals, and field issue resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer license required, Florida or reciprocity acceptable.
- 6β10+ years of transportation and roadway design experience.
- Strong experience with FDOT standards and project delivery; Districts 1, 3, 4, or 5 preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design efforts and work independently on complex projects.
