Job Description
The Power Distribution Design Engineer I - IV role is onsite in Maitland, FL, focusing on electrical distribution design for overhead and underground systems and supporting simple projects with storm restoration duties under supervision in an office setting with field work.
Responsibilities
- Create electrical distribution design drawings and BOMs required for the construction of simple projects.
- Collect field data using standard tools and perform project-specific inspections accurately and efficiently.
- Develop familiarity with technical analyses such as cable pulling calculations, voltage drop calculations, transformer loading, and pole loading analyses.
- Learn client construction standards, workflow processes, and customer charging guidelines as needed.
- Prepare permitting documents and other project support materials as required.
- Identify hazards associated with the distribution system and follow practices to prevent unsafe conditions during office and field activities.
- Prioritize safety and actively monitor others' safety across all aspects of the work.
- Attend scheduled safety meetings and comply with driving, site hazard identification, mitigation, and reporting training.
- Be eligible to participate on storm response local or travel teams as a Driver and Assessor Learner.
- Design electrical distribution systems including overhead and underground circuits for joint use, lighting, and commercial, industrial and residential development, using engineering calculations and field data to complete design work.
- Work primarily in an office environment with substantial field duties, including exposure to extreme weather and outdoor conditions, insects, animals, and vegetation as part of field activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or an engineering associate degree.
- FE/EIT certification preferred.
- Power distribution experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Pre-employment drug screening required; background and motor vehicle checks may be required depending on position.
