Job Description

Raytheon’s S3E division in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Principal Software Security Engineer to strengthen real-time missile software security on embedded platforms using C and C++. The role blends hands-on software development with security engineering in a DoD‑focused environment, and requires eligibility for an interim DoD Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship. Compensation ranges from USD 107,500 to 204,500 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver world‑class security software destined for deployed missile systems.
  • Design and evaluate real‑time software and the performance implications of security implementations.
  • Contribute to the design, development, integration, and testing of real-time missile software at the embedded level.
  • Apply System Security principles to missile software applications.
  • Develop software using C and C++ across diverse computing platforms.
  • Understand how individual efforts fit into the overall missile system and craft or review source‑level solutions accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Security Engineering team to define and implement requirements.
  • Work in a common development environment to support program capability.
  • Interface with the customer community to review technical designs and support verification of system maturity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in STEM and a minimum of eight years of relevant software experience.
  • Experience with C and C++.
  • Experience with Xilinx UltaScale+ MPSoC, Versal, or similar embedded processors.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems such as VxWorks or Embedded Linux.
  • Embedded software security experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret level U.S. security clearance prior to start; U.S. citizenship is required for program access and clearance eligibility.

Security clearance and application process

This role requires eligibility for an interim DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, and the clearance process is managed by the DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services.
