Job Description

Northrop Grumman seeks a Principal or Senior Principal PWB Design Engineer to lead the planning, layout, and production of printed wiring boards on complex assemblies. This onsite role in Rolling Meadows, IL requires close collaboration with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and adherence to standards, using Cadence Allegro.

USD 98,900 - 185,000 per year

Summary

Lead the design of PWB layouts and fabrication drawings, coordinating with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure manufacturability and compliance with industry standards, utilizing Cadence Allegro.

Responsibilities

  • Layout of PWBs/PCBs, flex circuits, interconnect routing, and drawing generation
  • Calculate layer stack-up based on industry standards, supplier capabilities, and engineering requirements
  • Create and document the electronic data file outputs required for fabrication and manufacturing
  • Interface with electrical and mechanical engineers to resolve component placement, routing, and mechanical fitment for rigid, flex, and rigid-flex assemblies
  • Apply technical theories of electrical and mechanical behavior of PWBs/PCBs to influence layout decisions (impedance matching, differential pairs, strains and stresses, component orientation, etc.)
  • Incorporate PWB/PCB change notices
  • Check designs and drawings for manufacturability
  • Coordinate and lead design reviews with engineering, quality and manufacturing personnel

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of directly related professional experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of directly related professional experience, or 9 years of directly related professional experience in lieu of degree
  • Drafting and design experience in PCB design for fabrication and PWB layer stack up for digital, RF, mixed signal, and power supply CCAs
  • Experience with Cadence Allegro or similar CAD tool
  • Knowledge of industry specifications and design for manufacturing (DFM) rules for CCA and PWB design, fabrication and manufacturing
  • Must be able to read drawings and schematic diagrams
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret security clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years of directly related professional experience, or Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of directly related professional experience, or 12 years of directly related professional experience in lieu of degree
