Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Design Engineer

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems in Rolling Meadows, IL is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Design Engineer to lead cross-disciplinary system design activities on site. This role centers on coordinating requirements, decomposing them with subject matter experts, supporting trade studies, and guiding design decisions through Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and DOORS.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate across disciplines to ensure system requirements and design are clearly defined and captured
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to decompose complex requirements
• Support trade studies addressing technical challenges
• Guide the decision-making process for system design
• Apply Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and appropriate tools
• Generate and update specifications and Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) in DOORS

Requirements

• A BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a STEM field with 5 years of related experience; OR an MS in a STEM field with 3 years of related experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field with 1 year of related experience
• A BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a STEM field with 8 years of related experience; OR an MS with 6 years; OR a PhD with 4 years
• Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving
• Experience in creating and delivering technical presentations
• Working knowledge of DOORS and MBSE methods and tools such as Cameo or similar tools
• US Citizen
• Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Secret Clearance with potential for additional customer-specified clearance
