Process Controls Engineer
Job Description
Air Products and Chemical is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to support instrumentation and process control systems across new and existing industrial gas facilities throughout North and South America. This hybrid role in Allentown, PA focuses on automation system design and support expertise, helping plants operate safely while meeting customer supply needs.
Role Overview
The position provides engineering coverage for DCS and PLC solutions and process instrumentation needs. The work spans urgent operational troubleshooting for remote sites, as well as safe delivery of improvement projects and ongoing optimization of existing assets.
Responsibilities
- Respond to urgent and immediate operational needs for remote facilities, including process instrumentation, DCS and PLC control logic, and support for engineering and operator control stations.
- Safely implement improvement projects with multi-disciplinary teams and support maintenance outages for routine PM tasks, productivity modifications, and obsolete equipment upgrades.
- Support improvement and optimization of existing assets by addressing instrumentation and process control system obsolescence, aligning work to organizational goals for safety, operational cost, and performance.
Requirements
- Experience in process automation systems and instrumentation.
- Hands-on knowledge of automation systems, control panels, and field instrumentation.
- Strong communication skills for investigating, troubleshooting, and presenting technical information to other engineering teams and site operations teams.
- This role is a Safety Sensitive position.

Minimum Hiring Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
- 3+ years of work experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering is required.
- Ability to travel 20% to 40%, mainly US domestic (East to West Coast) and Canada.
- Flexibility to be on call with a 24/7/365 support rotation (15 team member rotation).
- A valid drivers' license and a good driving record are required.
