Job Description

MPS Acoustics in Plano, TX designs and delivers cut and folded felt wall and ceiling installations that meet precise acoustic and aesthetic requirements. The Product Design Engineer will translate customer needs into manufacturable drawings, tailoring core products for custom applications and partnering with Sales and Production to ensure clarity and quality throughout the design process. This is an onsite, full-time role requiring hands-on engineering work and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop SolidWorks models and drawings guided by customer drawings, specifications, and visual requirements.
  • Adapt core MPS products to fit unique customer applications while preserving design intent.
  • Incorporate design-for-manufacturing and design-for-aesthetics principles to ensure buildability, repeatability, and visual correctness.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to interpret requirements and translate them into clear, producible designs.
  • Create and validate assembly and manufacturing jigs and fixtures as needed.
  • Design, assemble, and evaluate prototypes to support design changes and new configurations.
  • Verify fit, manufacturability, and appearance prior to production release.
  • Support new product development as the product line expands.
  • Develop and maintain product documentation, including models, drawings, and standards.
  • Produce clear assembly instructions, SOPs, and other technical documentation as required.
  • Establish drafting best practices and revision control to maintain accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and implement product and process improvements to reduce cost, defects, rework, and build time.
  • Lead permanent design fixes and verify that changes achieve the intended results.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to production teams.
  • Assist in resolving quality issues through root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Review drawings produced by drafters and provide technical guidance as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years in product design or mechanical engineering, with preference for made-to-order or high-mix manufacturing environments.
  • Experience designing assembly jigs and fixtures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks modeling and drafting best practices.
  • Proven product design experience and ability to develop product standards documentation.
  • Strong technical writing skills for SOPs and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Experience designing to aesthetic and appearance requirements.

Base salary: $70,000 - $80,000 per year
