Product Project Engineer
Job Description
Design and deliver mechanical product projects from concept through production release.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and market analysis for new and existing products.
- Develop 3D models and mechanical/technical drawings for stainless steel lifting and rigging components in line with ASME Y14.5.
- Evaluate tensile strength and structural integrity using manual calculations and SolidWorks Simulation.
- Define safe working load limitations for critical components.
- Manage product lifecycle activities from initial research through full production release.
- Oversee project scheduling and technical execution, including budget, quotes, and costing metrics.
- Design specialized tooling for gaging and manufacturing.
- Coordinate with management and shop personnel to transition prototypes into full-scale production; use machine tools as needed.
- Plan and oversee physical product testing and evaluation using mechanical testing equipment.
- Perform quality inspections and verify specifications using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gages).
- Maintain technical documentation, product specifications, and testing reports.
- Provide engineering support and technical documentation to Purchasing, Sales, and Quality Control teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of professional Mechanical Engineering experience.
- SolidWorks proficiency, including SolidWorks Simulation / FEA (2+ years hands-on experience stated).
- Technical drawing skills aligned to ASME Y14.5.
- AutoCAD CAD drawing ability.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including forging, casting, wire forming, and custom fabrication.
- Ability to follow instructions provided verbally and in writing.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
- Competency using machine tools.
- Experience using testing of equipment and precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gages).
- Experience using 3D printers.
- Mechanical aptitude and hand dexterity to assemble prototypes and 3D models.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
