Job Description

Deloitte is seeking a Project Lead Data Engineer III to lead Teradata data engineering initiatives from our Sacramento, California office. In this onsite role, you will oversee Teradata administration and performance tuning while collaborating with cross-functional teams within AI/Data and Government & Public Services to deliver robust data solutions. You will steer the day-to-day management of Teradata environments and mentor junior engineers as part of a broader GPS-focused data capability.

Overview

Location: Sacramento, CA (onsite). Compensation: USD 119,000 - 198,400 per year. Education required: Bachelor's degree. Experience required: 8+ years in Teradata database administration. This role centers on leading Teradata administration, optimizing SQL performance, and coordinating with AI/Data and Government & Public Services teams to advance data engineering objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Teradata environments, covering servers, databases, partitions, tables, indexes, and storage structures to maintain reliability and availability.
  • Perform SQL performance tuning and optimization to enhance query efficiency and overall database performance.
  • Manage Teradata utilities such as BTEQ, load utilities, and workload management tools to support data operations and processing.
  • Monitor system health, plan maintenance, and proactively implement upgrades, patches, and performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to communicate system status, resolve issues, and provide updates on Teradata environment health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role
  • 8+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA with strong expertise in database administration and system management
  • 2+ years of experience with Teradata utilities (BTEQ, load management, query execution management) and user/database administration
  • 2+ years of SQL experience with demonstrated performance tuning and query optimization
  • Ability to travel 5-20% on average based on client needs and engagement scope
