Job Description
Resident Engineer representing the Owner on bridge, roadway, and civil construction projects, ensuring work aligns with contract documents and project specifications.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with field inspectors and project team members to achieve civil construction goals for roadways and bridges
- Perform construction engineering duties related to road and bridge work
- Own the project Quality Control and Quality Assurance processes
- Lead professional and technical staff management and contract administration
- Review change orders, shop drawings, materials testing, and surveying activities
- Lead weekly project meetings and oversee utility coordination
- Coordinate materials testing, surveying, grade verification, and payment processing
- Ensure EEO and labor compliance for the project
- Prepare progress and final documentation in accordance with State and Federal Highway Administration requirements
- Handle a major project or multiple projects with moderate to complex features
- Prepare and review project documentation for conformity and quality assurance
- Provide technical guidance to upper management and staff on civil construction practices
- Supervise staff needed to complete assignments and oversee project profitability
- Maintain scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments
- Prepare proposals to deliver professional construction services under the direction of the Principal Construction Manager
- Resolve issues arising from inspection processes or contract administration
- Conduct performance evaluations for project personnel
- Serve as the primary point of contact with clients and approving agencies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
- 7+ years of construction contract management experience on roadway and/or bridge projects
- Working knowledge of CALTRANS and local agency projects; familiarity with document coordination on federally funded projects is desirable
- Able to effectively manage people
Compensation
- Salary range: $225,000 – $250,000 per year
- Typical starting pay: $110 per hour, paid semi-monthly
