Senior Control Engineer

Proactive Global is offering a Full-Time Senior Control Engineer opportunity with remote flexibility (work location also listed as Orlando, FL with remote available). This role focuses on taking controls projects end-to-end, combining hands-on PLC and HMI development with technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams. The position supports large-scale material handling and automation work, with an estimated travel up to 30% to customer sites as required.

Compensation: USD 120,000 - 135,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and programming of large-scale PLC projects.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to other Controls Engineers across the project lifecycle.
• Design controls and communication architectures, including PLCs, I/O distribution, and Ethernet communications.
• Develop PLC and HMI programs for material handling and automation systems.
• Program and integrate devices such as conveyor systems, MDR, VFDs, scanners, scales, printers, and other automation equipment.
• Configure and commission industrial Ethernet networks and connected devices.
• Configure and commission electrical and PLC safety circuits.
• Support internal teams, customers, vendors, and subcontractors with controls and electrical engineering expertise.
• Support and coordinate with the Electrical Design team.
• Prepare Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to support vendor quoting and selection.
• Lead onsite implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
• Support the full controls scope from design and programming through installation, testing, startup, and customer handover.
• Coordinate closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Applications, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
• Troubleshoot controls, electrical, communication, and equipment-related issues during implementation.
• Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Create, organize, maintain, and properly archive PLC, HMI, and other controls programs and configurations.
• Produce clear and professional technical documentation.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and participate in required meetings.
• Provide technical presentations and project updates to internal and external teams.
• Take on additional field-related responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or minimum 7 years of equivalent relevant experience.
• Proven experience creating and developing PLC and HMI programs.
• Experience configuring and commissioning devices such as VFDs, scanners, scales, MDR, and other material handling equipment.
• Experience configuring and commissioning industrial Ethernet communication networks.
• Experience with electrical and PLC safety circuits.
• Experience with large-scale PLC programming projects.
• Previous experience leading large-scale controls projects and/or other Controls Engineers.
• Strong understanding of accepted electrical engineering practices, techniques, and applicable codes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Proactive approach to identifying, initiating, and implementing improvements.
• Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Hands-on approach to troubleshooting and supporting project implementation.
• Ability to work flexible hours when required to meet customer requirements and project deadlines.
• Willingness to travel up to approximately 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within material handling, warehouse automation, conveyor systems, or systems integration.
• Mechanical aptitude and understanding of automated equipment operation.
• Experience working with large, complex automation projects from design through commissioning.
• Experience providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.
