Job Description

Join the SPIA team at Amazon where your work helps shorten the path from data to insight for 200+ internal customer teams across Selling Partner Support. This role focuses on building and evolving the AWS data infrastructure behind reporting, analytics, machine learning, and agentic AI experiences, with a mix of hands-on engineering and technical leadership.

Location: Seattle, WA (onsite)
Compensation: USD 154,600 - 209,100 per year
Experience: 5+ years

What you’ll do

  • Design and operate scalable, cost-effective data pipelines and infrastructure on AWS, curating datasets for reporting, analytics, and machine learning models.
  • Define logical data models and architectures that support worldwide growth by anticipating data access patterns and removing bottlenecks early.
  • Lead design reviews and collaborate with directors, VPs, and cross-functional partners to align data architecture with business strategy and long-term technical direction.
  • Establish and maintain data engineering standards across modeling, lineage, governance, and operational reliability to ensure consistency and data quality.
  • Coach and mentor other data engineers, strengthening both individual growth and the team’s technical capabilities.

Key responsibilities through your day

  • Balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership.
  • Review pipeline health dashboards, triage data quality issues, and pair on complex ETL problems.
  • Drive architecture discussions with partner teams and share data strategy updates with senior leadership.
  • Continuously evaluate how data solutions can evolve to support agentic AI workloads, contributing architectural recommendations that influence the roadmap.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with at least one modern scripting or programming language: Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS.
  • Experience mentoring team members on best practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and EMR.
  • Experience operating large data warehouses.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT, or equivalent.
  • Experience building or operating highly available, distributed systems for data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large datasets.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers on data engineering best practices.
  • Experience communicating with business users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements and communicate data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy.
