Job Description

The Senior Electrical Test Engineer will be based onsite in Golden, Colorado, and leads the development of production test solutions for PCBA and electro-mechanical assemblies in precision optoelectronics at Vescent Technologies. The role emphasizes design-for-test implementation, automated test scripting, and coordination of electronics compliance testing across products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of PCBA production test fixtures and processes, including bed-of-nails fixtures, functional test systems, and custom interfaces, within a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Define and implement design-for-test methodologies to improve manufacturability and test coverage.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and software for production and engineering validation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, fixture, and test system issues across development and manufacturing environments.
  • Support electrical compliance and regulatory testing to ensure products meet EMC/EMI and Product Safety standards.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams to improve test efficiency, reliability, and yield.
  • Document test procedures, fixtures, and validation results to support scalable production.
  • Contribute to electrical schematic design reviews and PCBA layout reviews, applying deep technical knowledge to identify issues and uphold best practices.
  • Train and support production staff in the proper use of test fixtures, tooling, equipment, and software/scripts.
  • Travel requirements: less than two weeks, primarily to local test facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: BS degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
  • Work experience: 3+ years using ECAD tools for PCB layout, component library maintenance, and generating manufacturing documentation packages.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting circuit schematics.
  • Knowledge of DFMA and DFT best practices and direct experience developing Test Processes.
  • Understanding of electrical and RF theory, with practical knowledge of mitigating electrical noise and interference.
  • Ability to apply theoretical and practical knowledge when reviewing team member circuit designs and PCBA layouts.
  • Proficiency with standard electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
  • Electronic troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic soldering and rework skills.

Desirable Additional Skills

  • Experience using Altium for schematic capture, layout design, and parts library maintenance.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-600 and IPC-2221.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61326 and IEC 61010 compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI compliance best practices.
  • Experience working with high-density PCBs including low-noise, high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits.
