Senior Engineer- BGE Electric Distribution

As a Senior Engineer in BGE Electric Distribution, you will serve as a technical subject matter expert for the electric distribution system. Working onsite across the BGE territory, you will lead complex engineering efforts that shape standards, engineering practices, and equipment specifications, while supporting studies, evaluations, and budget planning for major distribution projects.

This role combines deep technical analysis with project leadership, documentation ownership, and mentorship. You will also provide onsite engineering support at service centers and coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to validate engineering work and optimize outcomes.

Role Focus

• Provide expert guidance for the BGE electric distribution system, including review and development of standards, engineering practices, and equipment specifications.
• Deliver onsite engineering support across service centers in the BGE territory.
• Lead complex technical efforts and mentor junior staff in studies, specifications, and performance evaluations related to electric distribution systems and related infrastructure.
• Drive integrated systems analysis and budget planning for major projects across Exelon operations.
• Provide strategic recommendations based on in-depth evaluations of systems and processes.
• Oversee financial analysis and ensure alignment with project objectives, while facilitating collaboration across departments.
• Contribute to design reviews, contractor coordination, engineering calculation validation, project documentation workflows, and cost-benefit analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive engineering expertise, maintaining state-of-the-art engineering credentials in the specialized technical area (25%).
• Lead and perform engineering tasks and projects tied to critical or analytical work, or a small number of complex projects requiring specialized knowledge across many areas, including field testing, troubleshooting, and peer review (25%).
• Evaluate complex technical issues requiring highly specialized knowledge and recommend actions or programs for resolution, potentially including review and evaluation of engineering design documents (20%).
• Evaluate, develop, implement, and lead projects with significant financial and operational impact, including development of initial commissioning plans.
• Plan, write, and perform documentation deliverables and project tasks (10%).
• Provide detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others (10%).
• Participate in department planning through field/site walkdowns, meeting and conference call attendance, budget recommendations, and performance monitoring for committed results (5%).
• Participate in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues relevant to company interests (5%).

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Experience: 7+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
• Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory.
• Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes, methods, and practices unique to the areas of expertise.
• Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues.
• Related career experiences through at least three related career experiences OR Lead Member of a recognized industry committee OR Professional Engineer’s License.
• If holding a Professional Engineer’s License, it must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. A PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.
• Master’s degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.

• Working knowledge of analysis software packages such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar.
• Technical knowledge of both overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Advanced understanding of engineering principles of distribution transformers, regulators, and capacitors.

Compensation and Location

• Salary: USD 103,200 - 141,900 per year
