SENIOR ENGINEER / ENGINEER

The City of Cincinnati, through the Metropolitan Sewer District Facility Planning and Optimization Group, seeks a Senior Engineer / Engineer to perform engineering analyses and design work that optimize wastewater treatment processes and capital assets. This onsite role in Cincinnati, Ohio involves developing models, coordinating with operations and external agencies, and driving asset management initiatives. Salary range is USD 93,625 to 125,825 per year. A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to maximize asset performance and optimize replacement strategies using established engineering and asset management practices.
• Research, develop, and refine solutions for wastewater treatment plant challenges, including complex chemical and biological systems.
• Engage with operations and engineering staff to select and implement new treatment processes, methods, and execution pathways.
• Develop, review, and refine hydraulic and wastewater process models, engineering studies, and design documentation.
• Convey complex technical information effectively to varied audiences, in both oral and written forms, and coordinate with other divisions and external agencies.

Requirements

• Knowledge across engineering disciplines relevant to the role (structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical) with emphasis on reinforced concrete design.
• Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce precise plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Geology knowledge including local geology, investigative practices, and stabilization methods.
• Adherence to the Code of Ethics for Professional Engineers.
• Familiarity with applicable federal, state, local codes, regulations, and industry safety standards.
• Understanding of management principles, city personnel policies, procedures, and union contracts.
• Experience in obtaining and administering project funding.
• Awareness of materials, tools, and equipment used in engineering work.
• Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the City and department.
• Commitment to customer service principles and professional communication.
• Ability to operate computers and related hardware/software; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Direct the handling of division timesheets, OT approvals, and administrative forms.

Working and Physical Conditions

• Environment involves indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to computer screens, weather extremes, water, and hazardous environments depending on assignment.
• Fieldwork may require navigating uneven surfaces, ladder or scaffold work, proximity to heavy equipment, and exposure to dust, fumes, and potentially toxic chemicals.
• Physical duties include long periods of sitting, standing, and walking; manual dexterity; light to moderate lifting; and operation of assigned vehicles.
