Senior GNC Software Engineer
Job Description
Anduril’s Battelspace Awareness Command and Control Software team is seeking a Senior GNC Software Engineer to advance autonomous mission capabilities through global and local path planning, trajectory optimization, and real-time command and control software designed for contested environments.
Role Focus
In this role, you will work on path planning, trajectory optimization, and state-of-the-art real-time C2 software to enable autonomous execution for mission-critical operations. The work spans planners and decision-making systems, multi-agent coordination, and fleet routing across dynamic, uncertain, and contested scenarios.
Responsibilities
- Shape and influence the direction of a small team within the Command and Control Software organization using expertise in path planning and route optimization.
- Prototype and deploy algorithms for global and local path planning, trajectory optimization, and multi-agent coordination inside command and control systems.
- Build high-performance real-time C2 software, including operator-facing mission planning tools and autonomous tasking and routing services for fleets of unmanned platforms.
- Design and implement robust planners, search algorithms, and decision-making systems that produce safe, feasible, and optimal routes under uncertainty.
- Evaluate system performance using high-fidelity simulations, modeling tools, and rigorous statistical methods to validate planner behavior across mission scenarios.
- Support customer success by tailoring algorithms and software for mission-critical use cases such as collaborative autonomy, asset routing, and obstacle and threat avoidance.
- Integrate path planning capabilities into the broader command and control software stack and lifecycle, from requirements through testing and optimization.
- Communicate technical progress into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders including colleagues, operators, and end-users.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience across algorithm design, software development, and mathematical modeling, with programming experience in C/C++, Python, and Matlab.
- Strong knowledge of path planning techniques including A*, D* Lite, RRT, RRT*, and PRM, as well as lattice or grid-based planners.
- Demonstrated experience in GNC, trajectory optimization, and/or development of predictive models for vehicle dynamics and weapon system effectiveness (for example, 6-DoF simulation and intercept analysis).
- Solid applied mathematics foundation, including linear algebra, optimization, computational geometry, and graph theory.
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, kinematic constraints, and control theory applied to autonomous ground, air, or maritime platforms tasked through C2 systems.
- Familiarity with map representations, terrain reasoning, and efficient use of large-scale geospatial and environmental data within distributed C2 architectures.
- Background in machine learning as it relates to planning and decision-making, including reinforcement learning, learned heuristics, and behavior prediction.
- Ability to engineer robust planning systems under uncertainty and support multi-agent coordination in complex, dynamic, contested environments.
- Proven ability to work from prototyping through optimization of production systems.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Technical Skills
- C/C++, Python, Matlab
- A*, D* Lite
- RRT, RRT*, PRM
- 6-DoF simulation
- U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Location and Compensation
- Location: Waltham, MA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 191,000 - 254,000 per year
Benefits
- Comprehensive, competitive benefits package (available at little to no cost to employees) for health, recovery, and whatever comes next
