Senior Mainframe Network Engineer | TCP/IP, SNA/APPN, IBM NetView & OMEGAMON

Experis is seeking a Senior Mainframe Network Engineer to support mainframe network integrations within the Network Operations Department. The role focuses on TCP/IP and SNA/APPN connectivity, with an emphasis on operating and improving high-availability network services for business-critical transaction and batch-processing workloads.

This is a contract opportunity based in Plano, TX (onsite), with an hourly rate of $70–$73/hr. You will troubleshoot complex issues across multiple network layers and help modernize mainframe network architectures using observability, telemetry, and automation tools such as IBM NetView and IBM Omegamon.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and operate robust network solutions supporting mainframe TCP/IP and SNA/APPN system integrations.
• Optimize high-availability connectivity for high-velocity transactions and batch-processing systems.
• Lead modernization of mainframe network architectures, including enhancements in observability and telemetry.
• Advance automation and AI-assisted operations to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and strengthen network reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, and mainframe network stacks.

Requirements

• Extensive experience supporting enterprise-scale networks with high availability and reliability requirements.
• Strong foundational expertise in TCP/IP, including OSPF, EIGRP, and Layer 2 technologies such as VLANs and EtherChannel/Portchannel.
• Proficiency in packet trace analysis and multi-layer troubleshooting techniques.
• Experience supporting SNA/APPN networking environments.
• Working knowledge of switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, certificates, TLS/SSL, and REST APIs, along with automation tools such as IBM Netview and IBM Omegamon.
