Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer role focused on finite element analysis (FEA) for complex mechanical systems, with collaboration across software developers and technical experts in Columbus, OH (hybrid).

Responsibilities

  • Execute high-end FEA on intricate mechanical assemblies and systems
  • Create and deploy custom scripts and user subroutines to enhance simulations
  • Carry out structural, fracture mechanics, and multiphysics analyses for metal, non-metal, and composite components and assemblies
  • Assess material, fastener, and joint allowables data in accordance with MMPDS guidelines
  • Prepare and review MMPDS agenda items and present them at biannual meetings
  • Collaborate with Abaqus and ANSYS software vendors to address advanced modeling challenges
  • Support high-stakes programs requiring high-confidence analyses
  • Compile and evaluate design and test data to formulate technical recommendations
  • Generate reports and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Engage in technical conferences, peer review panels, industry committee meetings, and related forums to raise company visibility, with about 10% travel
  • Lead or contribute to technical projects, ensuring quality and on-schedule delivery
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on analysis methodologies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant technical field
  • At least five years of experience in safety-focused sectors such as aerospace, nuclear, or power generation, with a background in structural design
  • Proven experience applying advanced FEA to complex systems
  • Strong foundation in structural analysis or fracture mechanics
  • Experience scripting or developing custom simulation tools
  • Ability to work independently on complex analysis problems
  • Proficiency in technical writing and presenting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience mentoring junior staff
  • Willingness and ability to learn new modeling software

Preferred Qualifications

Compensation

  • Salary range of $82,000 to $117,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package
