Job Description

Gray & Postell, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical HVAC Designer/Engineer to lead the design and coordination of HVAC and plumbing systems on building projects in Atlanta, GA. This hybrid role offers a salary range of USD 85,000 to 140,000 per year and calls for 8 to 15+ years of experience along with a professional engineer license. The position centers on guiding project design, collaborating with clients and stakeholders, and delivering engineering outcomes that meet both company and client standards.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design scope for projects within your discipline across the lifecycle.
  • Provide oversight and delegate engineering tasks to designers on the internal team.
  • Apply sound judgment to resolve non-routine design challenges.
  • Apply internal standards and client requirements and codes.
  • Take lead responsibility for projects within your discipline.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, owner representatives, contractors and project teams on design and construction administration.
  • Coordinate work with supporting engineers and administrative staff and assign tasks.
  • Evaluate, design and layout HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Size and layout HVAC equipment, ductwork and distribution devices.
  • Size and layout mechanical process equipment and piping.
  • Use CAD software such as AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings and documents.
  • Calculate heating and cooling loads for system evaluation aligned with facility and client requirements.
  • Provide energy analysis or modeling to meet energy codes and sustainability certification guidelines.
  • Prepare construction plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field observations of installations to verify compliance with documents, client requirements and codes.
  • Participate in document reviews across project stages for quality control.
  • Assess staff resources and contribute to resource management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 8 to 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer license with the ability to obtain licensure in other states.
  • Ability to lead a team to deliver projects successfully.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in applicable design guidelines and codes.
  • Effective communication and coordination with clients throughout the project lifecycle.
