Senior MEP Engineer / Practice Builder
Job Description
TEEMA is hiring a Senior MEP Engineer / Practice Builder in the Greater Phoenix Market (onsite) to launch and scale a Healthcare & Mission-Critical MEP engineering practice. This is a seller-doer executive leadership role with end-to-end autonomy, combining market pursuit, technical delivery, commissioning oversight, and long-term account expansion. If you enjoy building relationships and leading complex engineering work, this role offers a clear path to shape the practice from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the strategic growth and market expansion of an MEP practice focused on healthcare systems, data centers, and mission-critical infrastructure.
- Operate as a lead seller-doer, building direct relationships with hospital networks, data center operators, developers, architects, general contractors, and public agencies across Arizona.
- Own the pursuit pipeline including proposals, scopes of work, fee negotiations, competitive interviews, and project capture strategies.
- Serve as both a strategic and technical advisor to executive-level client stakeholders.
- Provide senior technical oversight for high-reliability mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering deliverables.
- Stay hands-on with conceptual design, high-level calculations, system redundancy modeling, technical reviews, and QA/QC procedures.
- Lead complex projects across the full lifecycle: conceptual planning, detailed design, construction administration, commissioning, and final handover.
- Ensure designs emphasize reliability, N+1/2N redundancy, energy efficiency, maintainability, constructability, and strict code compliance.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier engineers, designers, and project managers to build a high-performing local team.
- Set initial practice structure, project workflows, and technical delivery standards as revenue scales.
- Balance practice profitability, staff utilization, business development targets, and delivery schedules.
- Foster a collaborative culture built on technical rigor, accountability, client service, and professional development.
- Define market strategy, shape service offerings, recruit your core engineering team, and establish a prominent practice across the Southwest.
- Take complete ownership of the client lifecycle, from initial market pursuit through engineering execution, commissioning, and long-term account expansion.
Core Markets and Project Sectors
- Healthcare: acute-care hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, complex clinical environments, medical gas systems, central utility plants, and phased renovations within active operational facilities.
- Mission-Critical: Tier III/IV data centers, high-density computing facilities, critical emergency power systems, standby generators, UPS systems, central cooling plants, and redundant electrical distribution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or related Engineering discipline.

- Active Arizona PE registration (or immediate reciprocity eligibility) is highly preferred.
- 10–15+ years of progressive MEP design and project management experience, with a heavy emphasis on healthcare, hospital, or data center environments.
- Proven seller-doer track record with demonstrated success developing client networks, winning proposals, and expanding existing accounts.
- Established relationships within the Phoenix/Arizona architecture, engineering, construction, or healthcare/tech owner communities strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects, mentor junior talent, and interface confidently with executive decision-makers.
