Senior Software Engineer
Job Description
Senior Software Engineer role at Saab, onsite in Quincy, MA, contributing to the architecture, development, integration, and maintenance of software for autonomous maritime vehicles (USVs/UUVs/AUVs) and ROVs across the full software lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, implement, unit test, document, and maintain software across Linux, Windows, and embedded platforms using multiple programming languages
- Apply core software engineering principles and best practices to create innovative solutions and address complex challenges
- Support software modeling, simulation, integration, and test activities as needed
- Develop and present technical concepts, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates
- Engage in the full software product lifecycle including development, prototyping, integration, verification, delivery, and support
- Participate in technical reviews and status meetings
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity
- Adhere to company standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of similar experience
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
- Scripting experience with Linux/Unix shells, Matlab, and similar environments
- Experience with Integrated Development Environments including Eclipse, GNU toolchains, VS Code, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Arduino
- Knowledge of version control systems such as SVN and Git
- Experience with issue tracking via Jira or similar tools
- MS Office suite including Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies, including Scrum
- Experience working with virtual machines
- Strong understanding of industry standard software design methods, including configuration control, design tradeoffs, analyses, and requirement specification
- Demonstrated software product development background with strong engineering aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to resolve issues during design, development, and execution of software activities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team or independently
- Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance
- Willingness to travel up to 25 percent, international and domestic, as project needs

Compensation range
- Quincy, MA: $138,900 - $180,600
- Cranston, RI: $127,300 - $165,500
Desired skills and experience
- Prior experience with U.S. defense programs is highly desirable
- Experience developing products and solutions for Naval and Marine applications, including robotic systems
- Experience with bare-metal embedded software development
