Job Description

DoorDash is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Data Engineering to scale data infrastructure, automate pipelines, and drive high-performance data products across teams. This hybrid role is positioned in the San Francisco area with the option to be near Sunnyvale or Seattle, reflecting the company’s distributed engineering footprint. The role emphasizes building robust data models and reliable data pipelines that empower business and product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business partners and stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into concrete data specifications.
  • Coordinate with engineering, product teams, and third parties to collect the necessary data.
  • Architect, develop, and implement scalable data models and pipelines for Data Lake and Data Warehouse environments to handle high volume and high performance demands.
  • Design and implement data quality checks, execute QA, and establish monitoring routines to maintain data trustworthiness.
  • Enhance the reliability and scalability of ETL processes across the data platform.
  • Manage a portfolio of data products that deliver high-quality, trustworthy data to stakeholders.
  • Onboard and support other engineers as they join the team to ensure smooth integration and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • 3+ years in data engineering, business intelligence, or a related role.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java.
  • 3+ years of experience with ETL orchestration and workflow management tools like Airflow, Flink, Oozie, or Azkaban using AWS or GCP.
  • Strong fundamentals in databases, SQL, and distributed computing.
  • 3+ years of experience with distributed data ecosystems (Spark, Hive, Druid, Presto) and streaming technologies such as Kafka or Flink.
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and/or other DBMS platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Knowledge of reporting tools such as Tableau, Superset, and Looker.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, self-starter, and self-organizing.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze market and consumer information.
  • Location near one of the designated engineering hubs (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle).
