Senior Software Engineer – Edge Intelligence & Decentralized Grid Operations

GE Vernova invites a Senior Software Engineer to our Melbourne, Florida location to help advance edge intelligence and decentralized grid operations. The role emphasizes edge-native software, federated data pipelines, and digital twin components to enable autonomous, resilient grid management. You will collaborate with data scientists, control engineers, infrastructure specialists, and customers to translate ideas into scalable grid solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy edge-native software modules enabling distributed sensing, control, and autonomous grid management
• Build fault-tolerant data synchronization and concurrency control across multiple edge environments
• Construct federated data pipelines that allow distributed nodes to collaborate securely without central orchestration
• Incorporate field data sources such as SCADA, PMUs, and DER controllers
• Implement IoT protocols and networks including LoRa, MQTT, DNP3, and Modbus
• Bridge simulation environments with live grid operations
• Incorporate AI/ML capabilities and federated control frameworks into next-generation grid platforms
• Contribute to digital twin design using graph-based and physics-informed modeling
• Support experimentation and prototyping at customer test sites and in simulation environments
• Collaborate with data scientists, control engineers, infrastructure specialists, and customers
• Partner with systems engineers to align software with physical grid systems
• Work with product teams to rapidly turn ideas into validated, scalable solutions

Requirements

• Strong scripting and programming skills across MATLAB, Go, Rust, Python (backend/edge) and front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, TypeScript with React or Angular
• Extensive experience with Kubernetes/K3s, Kafka or NATS, MQTT, gRPC, Pulsar, InfluxDB or TimescaleDB, and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana)
• Hands-on work with digital twin and simulation modeling tools including OpenFMB, Modelica, and graph-based modeling, plus AI/ML model algorithms
• Experience deploying AI/ML models in production environments
• Background in federated architectures and resilient edge software applied to transmission and distribution applications
