Senior Software Engineer I - ACS (Openshift SME)

Join the Agile Core Services (ACS) team as an OpenShift subject matter expert supporting design, integration, and operations of a Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution.

Responsibilities

• Train and enable the development team on deployment and maintenance of OpenShift, including container-native application development and microservice design patterns
• Own container platform ecosystem tasks including installation, upgrades, patching, and monitoring
• Support change management for container platform updates, including new OpenShift versions and hotfixes
• Design, implement, develop, and integrate software that enables infrastructure services for data mediation, orchestration, and machine-to-machine messaging
• Integrate multi-functional applications into container-based support services
• Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code aligned to technical requirements
• Collaborate across Agile/Scrum lifecycle activities to support delivery on schedule with quality
• Assist with troubleshooting code defects and support timely fixes
• Deploy software into operational environments
• Perform deploying, installing, and troubleshooting at Fleet and Navy test facilities
• Troubleshoot software code issues and report findings
• Review and provide feedback on project technical documentation pertinent to Fleet
• Support trouble tickets by creating, updating, and closing tickets and tracking items to resolution using Confluence and JIRA
• May be asked to participate in the Operations Team to support installations and system maintenance across locations including labs, naval shore sites, and on-board naval vessels (locally to internationally)
• Travel from San Diego to CONUS and OCONUS as required (expected ~2 weeks per year / 5%)

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related discipline
• 6+ years of experience in a software engineering role
• Existing US Security Clearance (Interim SECRET or above)
• Security+/DOD IAT Level II certification required
• Experience researching, analyzing, installing, and testing software updates, patches, and hotfixes; experience troubleshooting software code issues and reporting findings
• 4+ years hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing containerized applications (e.g., Docker, container lifecycle management, CI/CD integration)
• 4+ years practical experience with container orchestration platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes (cluster administration, scaling, monitoring, troubleshooting)
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ansible, and Python
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with business users and management
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a teamwork-focused environment
• Effective written, oral, and presentation skills
• U.S. Citizenship required per government contractual requirements

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
• 2 years of experience managing or developing OpenShift or Kubernetes infrastructures
• Experience with and understanding of KubeFrame
• Experience with additional container, virtualization, or cloud technologies including Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, VMware vSphere, and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Exposure to working with DISA, NIST, or STIG security guidelines and how to adhere to them

Location and Salary

• San Diego, CA (onsite)
• USD 141,000 - 230,000 per year
