Senior Software Engineer - Kubernetes/RHEL

General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help shape software and infrastructure that can be deployed into a Linux-based Common Computing Environment (CCE) PaaS. This role focuses on building and improving delivery processes, coordinating test environments, and enabling reliable communication with external stakeholders, with hands-on work integrating containerized applications in Kubernetes.

Based in Manassas, VA, this position supports a hybrid schedule with flexibility for on-site work at the GDMS Ashton Avenue Manassas facility. The compensation range for this role is USD 149,902 - 166,298 per year, with experience requirements aligning to a senior engineering background.

Role overview

• Develop forward-looking software and infrastructure architecture deployable into a Linux-based Common Computing Environment (CCE) PaaS.
• Improve the software and infrastructure build process and manage setup and configuration of hardware and software test environments.
• Coordinate and manage external communications while providing team leadership.
• Support containerized application integration in Kubernetes.

Required background

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related STEM field plus 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree plus 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire.
• Selected applicants will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within company facilities.

Essential capabilities

• Architect infrastructure within the SWFTS environment and coordinate with key stakeholders.
• Integrate containerized software applications in Kubernetes or another container runtime.
• Use advanced troubleshooting to isolate software, infrastructure, and systems-level issues, including on products not developed by your team or contract.
• Apply automated testing practices for deploying and managing custom containerized applications and open-source tools and components.
• Demonstrate understanding of cybersecurity principles in the development of prototype and production software products.

Desired capabilities

• Experience with Ansible IaC, Java Spring Boot, Python, and Kubernetes.
• Experience generating Docker container files from scratch.
• Bash scripting experience.
• Prior or current leadership within integrated product team structures.
• Understanding of cluster networking and design capabilities.

In-depth experience

• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
