Job Description

Based in San Francisco, CA onsite, this Senior Software Engineer - iOS role focuses on shaping Amplitude's iOS SDKs as part of the Developer Experience team, with a salary range of USD 165,000 - 276,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Define and steer the architecture and long-term direction of the iOS SDK platform.
  • Own development of core iOS SDKs, including Analytics and Session Replay, prioritizing performance, reliability, and developer usability.
  • Serve as the iOS platform expert and trusted partner for other SDK teams (Experiment, Guides & Surveys) to enable safe and efficient shared foundations.
  • Design and evolve shared infrastructure, APIs, and abstractions that scale across multiple iOS SDKs.
  • Collaborate with Product and Customer Support to ensure SDKs meet real customer needs.
  • Lead cross-team technical discussions, reviews, and architectural decisions spanning multiple SDKs.
  • Enhance developer experience through improved APIs, documentation, tooling, testing strategies, and sample apps.

Requirements

  • Strong focus on developer experience and empathy for engineers who will use your work.
  • Expertise in iOS platform internals and best practices.
  • Sound judgment balancing API design, performance, backward compatibility, and speed of delivery.
  • Ability to operate across team boundaries and influence without direct authority.
  • High standard for code quality, testing, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial iOS development.
  • Strong proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, with experience using modern iOS APIs, frameworks, and development tools.
  • Experience designing public APIs with a focus on stability and backward compatibility.
  • Experience debugging complex issues across a wide range of iOS devices and OS versions.
  • Familiarity with performance profiling, memory management, and concurrency on iOS.
