Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms)

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms) to design and qualify precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical assemblies for highly critical missions. This onsite role in Carlsbad, CA emphasizes end-to-end ownership of hardware, from concept development and trade studies through detailed design, lab integration, and testing, with hands-on work in the Carlsbad lab alongside a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of tasking while working with limited supervision across a range of high-consequence program activities
• Provide regular communication and briefings to internal and external stakeholders, including customer representatives
• Generate components of the Technical Data Package, including part and assembly drawings
• Prototype, integrate, and test component parts and assemblies
• Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems
• Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems
• Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews
• Participate in product change review discussions and implement changes
• Contribute to interdisciplinary design teams and reviews
• Maintain strong organization and attention to detail
• Work independently with limited supervision
• Adhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, and related workflows
• Direct designers, technicians, and operators as part of the design team
• Support field testing and demonstration efforts as an ME field representative

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree, with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience
• Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required (active within the last two years will be considered)
• Favorable polygraph
• Minimum experience alternatives: Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of prior related experience, or no degree with 10 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills

• Experience designing or developing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, and/or packaging of modules and electronics with considerations for thermal and structural loading, including size, weight, and power optimization
• CAD proficiency using Creo and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
• Experience with additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly
• Experience with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and manufacturing processes

Location: Carlsbad, CA (onsite) | Salary range: USD 102,000 to USD 189,000 per year
